Trello is a software project management tool that is quite popular among those involved in any business. Initially developed by Fog Creek Software back in 2020, it quickly was spun off into a new company in 2020 when Microsoft acquired that company. Trello is very user-friendly and has many features that will make managing a team of people much more accessible. Once a person has been trained on using it effectively, Trello can be used just like an email client. Many companies have found that using Trello has lowered their expenses and significantly reduced the time it takes to get work done.
Trello was developed as a Kanban-style product list application. Its most basic form is a set of pull-down menus that represent the different card decks available for any given project. Each tier can contain one or more of the items that make up a project, and anyone in the company can change the order of these cards by tapping into the “edit” option on the right-hand side of the screen. Adding tags to a card allows for a more accessible organization since a user can identify which item should be moved to a new location in the hierarchy. This can also help when a card is moved; its associated tasks are automatically transferred to their appropriate spot within the tree.
An essential feature that makes Trello particularly useful for project managers is assigning due dates for individual cards. Whenever a card is due for review, the due date will be displayed below the due date on that particular card. The sub-categories of that project can then be viewed beneath the due date so that what
other items can be tracked as they become due. Likewise, the order of the tags within a project can be tracked in the tree so that prioritization can be assigned. All of this allows a project manager to ensure that tasks are completed in the appropriate order for their priority.
Kanban boards, or work boards as they are known, are among the core concepts that make up the design of Trello. A kanban is a virtual board whose tasks can be assigned to individuals or teams. Project managers can use kanban boards to display important task priority lists, such as those given to employees through the system’s onboarding process. They can also use kanban boards to display due task dates, which the management team can use to track progress reports.
A vital aspect of the collaboration tool known as Trello boards’ use to display collaboration tools. There are many different ways that individuals can collaborate on a project through these boards, as can be seen in the example above. Workers in a team can be assigned tasks to make progress on, prioritize, and even star others’ progress. Project managers can assign boards to specific groups so that all individuals within that group can see what their work status is.
The entire premise of the collaboration tool known as Trello is based on the ability of individuals to create lists, add comments, and swap off lists. This chain of command can easily be converted to a more centralized one.
One by using a Kanban board, which would allow for one list to dictate the order of other lists. One example of this would be if one team needed to look at the status of five different projects and then swap off lists of projects that were due to be started or finished. This would give a project manager an effective way to manage his project.
